Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Fri May 16, 2008, 4:04 AM
So Saturday, was the thing at Mershon Auditorium with Jeff Smith and Scott McCloud. Lots of fun, and gots me some autographs, lol. Also came to the realization that these guys really aren't celebrities, even though in my mind, they're huge people involved in something I love. M and I went and got good seats for what boiled down to a discussion of the making of Bone. Good times, especially since M recognized Jeff from her days as a pharmacist in German Village. Apparently, Charles Vess was in the audience at one point and anyone who knows about my comics addictions knows how disappointing it was to me that I missed him. Especially since he didn't actually give any kind of presentation back when he had his show at ONU...

But yesterday was also a really good day. M took the day off work, swapping it with Monday. While she was supposed to go to Meijers while I was asleep, she didn't get up in time. So we went and honestly it was probably the low point of the day.. mainly because I hate big box stores and because we did most of the shopping in the garden center and I was wearing shorts, due to a miscommunication between myself and my Storm God heritage and the actual weather..

So then we hit the comic store and I picked up a couple books and a couple from the back issues (a copy of the final issue of Strangers and the issue where David.. um, does that thing he does at the end of the series - Sorry, I haven't forced the story down all of your throats, yet and I didn't want to spoil it). Besides that, I had my other copy of Strangers 90, Strangers 1 (the Homage reboot, unfortunately) and Echo 1, with that foil cover I so, so adore...

Why? I'll get to that, but first we met up with Mystie and hit Mac's for $5 Burger night. Yum! Good eatin's and conversation.

And then we hit Wexner Center for the Terry Moore presentation. As I sat in the half filled auditorium, I couldn't help but feel where the guy is coming from. I also could think of about a dozen of my friends who would have enjoyed the presentation. Oh well...

I took away two major things from that one though.. First, Neither Terry or Jeff (who was also there) actually started self publishing until they were in their thirties, so there's hope.. lol, slim though it may be.. (Maybe all it would take is some meds for Adult ADD, LOL). And the other thing Terry said in passing, talking about people in their twenties (in reference to small press publisher's content, but also as a general statement) was that people in their twenties are coming to the hard realization that no one is going to take care of them and that most of them spend about a decade working this out for themselves in a state of depression/anger. So maybe there's still hope yet.. lol

And then we picked up Mystie and hit Jenni's (Ice Cream) on High St. I have to say, I wasn't really impressed, but then I like my flavors and they had nothing even approaching it, so I went with some fruity stuff... Strawberry, Banana and Passion Fruit. It was good, just not my thing...

Also, I have come to the decision (delusion?) that Robocop was based off of my life story, nearly word for word...

 i'm in complete agreement with you my friend... the PB pics from the 60's into the 80's were the days when 35mm film ruled and those pictorials were true art. one of the images from this portfolio is a tribute to my all-time fave Playmate using this same media mix and technique... i'll be posting it sometime in the weeks ahead.

I love your shading on it, what can I say?

those old magazine photos from the 60's just had a certain softness to them you rarely see these days... it's a shame..

I've been playing in Photoshop with my graphics tablet (seems like the only thing I do anymore) lol

Layers make for good brainstorming because you can make them invisible as needed...

I've strayed from the list a bit, I don't follow it in any order really, it helps me not get fussed about finishing it all at once.

The light logo thats the capital L that looks like its being beamed down from a flash of light. The logo for "dark" is very good too :aww:

This exercise has had me buying new sketchbooks and all kinds of crazy stuff to get it done! Amazing what a list of 100 subjects does to a persons' mind.

which logo? It's coming along slowly. I like the Dark logo better...

Seeking Solace is gonna be a trip.. lol

I really think this exercise is doing me good. Of course I need to get back on doing my tarot deck. I'm amazed at how far along on that I am..
